Letter from the Editors

We’re back! It has been just over a year since the pilot edition of the MIT LGO Review was released, and a lot has happened in the world over the past 14 months. We are excited to bring you a special edition focused on the virtual alumni conference on April 9th, 2021. The conference this year is focused on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and “Manufacturing from Home”. What is “Manufacturing from Home” you ask? The COVID-19 pandemic forced much of the world home for the last year, creating new operational and manufacturing challenges. Many companies adapted to the new environment by embracing digital technology, different approaches to collaboration, and new measures to keep their workforces safe and healthy during an extremely dynamic period. Much of the LGO community was at the forefront of reinventing operational practices in order to meet urgent needs in our communities, and the “LGO Toolbox” was a key enabler to successfully lead our team members through a challenging period in history.

In this special edition, we include several articles touching on the themes of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and “Manufacturing from Home”, while staying true to the original objectives of the MIT LGO Review publication:

1) Showcase the academic work of the MIT LGO program’s students and academic partners through a medium that is both accessible and of practical use to a broad audience

2) Increase engagement with the MIT LGO alumni and industry partners by providing a forum for capturing and sharing knowledge

3) Leverage the MIT LGO community’s collective knowledge and experience to contribute to technological progress and best practices in the field of operations

We hope you enjoy this special edition of the MIT LGO Review, and as always, thank you to our authors and contributors for making this possible. If you have any feedback or recommendations for future content, contact us at lgoreview@mit.edu.

See you all at the virtual alumni conference!
